Building Lasting Relationships

Another week has flown by! I can hardly believe it’s already been 5 weeks here in Australia. Time is going by so quickly, and I only have 2.5 weeks left!

Last weekend, my host family and I ventured out to some local wineries in the Swan Valley. We spent the sunny day playing cards, sipping wine, and just laughing together! We also visited the Margaret River Chocolate Factory, and I’ve never seen so many chocolate options in my life! The weather is starting to warm up, so I’m hoping we’ll be able to enjoy some beach days soon.

As my time here begins to wrap up, I’ve started reflecting on the lasting relationships I’ve built in such a short time. The culture here is so welcoming! At school, the teachers and educational assistants take care of me like I’m their own daughter. They’re always bringing me Aussie snacks and candy, inviting me to dinner, offering to drive me home, and just checking in on me. I’ve loved getting to know them all, and I’ll miss them so much when I leave! My host family has been wonderful, too. We often find fun things to do together on the weekends—whether it’s watching a movie at home or going out to explore. Even though they’re only about 10 years older than me, I refer to them as my Aussie mum and dad! I’ve also built such strong relationships with the students in my classroom. The kids have been so accepting and respectful, and I’ve loved getting to know each of their unique personalities. It’s been really special watching them open up once they feel comfortable around me. They often ask questions about life in America, and I appreciate their curiosity to learn about another culture, even at such a young age. Not only have I gotten to know the stduents but the parents as well. The mum's often talk to me in the morning and give me recommendations for things to do here in Perth. Saying goodbye to these kiddos will definitely be the hardest part of leaving!

With just two more full weeks here, we’ve got some fun adventures planned for the coming days. While I’m excited to return home, I’m making sure to soak in every single moment I have left here!

Some random pictures from the camera roll this week!
